I got this idea from another teacher here in MCPS and tweaked and changed it a little bit. I really wanted to incorporate the students’ chrome books here in the art room – and it ended up being so so fun! The kids really enjoyed doing something totally different, I loved seeing how they responded to a different situation (technical art vs. tactile), and it was the easiest clean up EVER!!! 🙂
- Artistic innovation: strategies, techniques and resources.
- Criteria for judging art
- Students will be able to create a pixel art image on the computer using Google Sheets.
Week 1: I introduced the lesson, gave them examples, talked about the history behind games like Pacman and Space Invader. I showed them artwork by urban, anonymous street artist who goes by the name Invader. You can see some of his artwork here. Students where given a packet with examples of pixel art and graph paper to try out their designs on paper.
Weeks 2-4: Students worked on re-creating examples I gave them, and came up with ideas on their own to make pixel-art, all using Google Sheets on their Chromebooks.
I love how these turned out, and it was such a fun experience to see the kids outside of their art element – how I usually see them.
