5th grade – Symmetrical Origami Snowflakes

This was just something fun we did today and yesterday in 5th grade. I got the idea from this blog and just loved it! We talked about origami, how it is a paper folding art, and radial symmetry. Students had to work together after learning the 4 folds to come up with a symmetrical snowflake. When we get back from the holiday break, we’ll continue with our Mayan Masks, but for today and yesterday, they played and had fun. 🙂 I sent the snowflakes down to the grade level teachers so they could display them in their classroom. They turned out so neat! And I especially think it’s cool that they all learned the same exact 4 folds, but each design is so different.

Have an awesome holiday break! Spend lots of time with those you love, and I wish you a Happy New Year!
