1st grade Pigeon

I just love this project. It was just a quick one day lesson where we talked about how simple shapes make up objects, and when you break down objects you can see those easy shapes to draw. Ask a first grader, “Can you draw a pigeon?” And he may say no. But can you draw a circle? Rectangle? Semi-circle? You betcha! And that’s pretty much all these pigeons are! We read Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! and then drew our pigeons in black crayons. Then we talked about how wax crayons and water color paint react to each other and how the wax resists the water. So cool!

And voila. These masterpieces were created! I let the kids decide everything here, and just gave a few ideas. I loved them all. They did an amazing job!!
